Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) is a self-supporting unit of the University of Minnesota within Auxiliary Services. The department is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of reliable and efficient transportation services on the Twin Cities campus including transit, parking, fleet, streets, walkways and way-finding.

Student Position Descriptions
Student Parking/Event Attendant
Qualifications: Able to work outdoors during all four seasons, able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, have excellent communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Experience with the public, customer service skills, cash handling, and excellent computer skills preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities: Provide positive public relations and customer service, assist customers with paystations at facility exits, collect payment directly during events, and handle minor complaints.
Qualifications: Completion of entry-level accounting class, PC experience, and ability to input or work with downloaded data from several online sources; use of Excel/Microsoft Windows at above-basic skill, 10 key calculator experience, highly detail-oriented, able to reconcile given specific instructions; and reliable work hour attendance. Preferred qualifications include: accounting work experience with general ledgers, able to work year-round (12 months); can follow detailed instructions and work independently. Flexible to varying task assignments as needed. Valid Driver’s license.
Duties/Responsibilities: Assist with department credit card sales and expense reconciliation, parking cash sales reviews, incentive card/coupon reconciliations, monthly transaction ledger posting, fiscal year end support duties (e.g. counting inventory).
Accounting Intern 2
Qualifications: PC experience with the ability to input data on a computerized general ledger system; must be highly accurate, detail-oriented and reliable; knowledge of MS Excel; willing to work year-round (12 months) Preferred qualifications include: Accounting or booking experience; completion of basic accounting class; knowledge of MS Access and MS Windows; 10-keypad experience; self-motivated and can complete tasks with minimum supervision; prefer Carlson School of Management student; valid driver's license.
Duties/Responsibilities: Auditing daily activity reports and processing parking exception tickets; coding and inputting data in computerized general ledger and parking accounts receivable system; entering into receivable/payment MS Access database of envelope system and NSF checks; updating spreadsheets; mailing parking bills; filing documents and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must be at least 19 years of age and have a valid driver's license with no moving violations in the last 2 years. Must have 1 year of cash handling experience or education beyond high school. Selected candidates will undergo a criminal background check.
Hours: Standard hours are Sunday & Monday evenings and Wednesday & Friday mornings, to a maximum of 19 hour per week.
Duties: Collect cash deposits from parking booths and verify cash counts. Deliver supplies as needed to parking facilities.
Utility Worker/Parking Maintenance
Qualifications: H/S graduation/equivalent. Applicants must have a valid drivers license, be at least 19 years old, and have a clean driving record (no moving violations within the last 2 years). They must be able to follow directions; lift 80 pounds; and possess an automotive aptitude. One year previous work experience is required.
Hours: Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week. Shifts are variable throughout day and evenings, 6 am – 10 pm, Monday - Friday, no more than 20 hours per week during the school year.
Duties: Perform custodial duties and tasks in parking facilities.Answer the office phone. Support the Motorist Assistance Program (MAP) which involves jumpstarting cars, opening locked cars, and adding air to tires. Procedural and safety training is provided.
Qualifications: A marketing, communication or journalism student with junior or senior status. Must have excellent verbal and written communication and be experienced in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Hours: 15-20 hours per week during office hours (8 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday).
Duties: Assist with all aspects of marketing the products and services of the department. Fill publication orders, oversee publication and giveaway inventory, stock publications throughout campus and coordinate special events. Assist with market research, communications and design work
Qualifications: Enrolled/registered as an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota with a minimum of 6 credits. High school graduate or equivalent. Must be dependable and have the ability to work independently. Basic computer skills/data entry and word processing required. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Experience in dealing with the public providing customer service to staff, faculty, students and visitors. Experience providing information and customer service over the phone. Ability to quickly learn new tasks and follow instructions. Willingness to handle a variety of tasks, often with interruptions.
Hours: 3-4 hour shifts between 6:45am-5pm
Duties: Working at the customer service desk requires answering phones regarding parking and transit issues, assisting walk-in customers, selling parking contracts, and assisting with bus pass questions. Assist supervisor with special projects such as mass mailings, spreadsheets, etc.
Bike Center Attendant
Qualifications: Have excellent communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Experience with the public, customer service skills, cash handling, and excellent computer skills preferred.
Hours: 10-20 hours/week between 7 am – 11 am, Monday-Friday
Duties: Provide positive public relations and customer service, answer customer questions, and handle minor complaints.
Alternative Transportation Intern
Qualifications: Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects, exceptional attention to detail, data analysis skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and mapping software, ability to interact with public and staff in a professional manner. Prefer students with interest in biking, alternative transportation, and/or sustainability.
Hours: 10-20 hours/week during regular business hours (8 am – 6 pm, Monday-Friday). Full-time summer position available.
Duties: Assist with the coordination and management of the bike program/ZAP! bike incentive program. Plan and staff events related to biking/alternative transportation. Plan and assist with/deliver bike/alternative transportation outreach and education events. Assist with special projects.
Transportation Systems Intern
Qualifications: Civil Engineering (transportation emphasis) or Transportation Planning major (prefer sophomore or junior status) that can work multiple football seasons. Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects, exceptional attention to detail, working knowledge of computers and programs including Microsoft Office suite, mapping tools, and ability to interact with clients and staff in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner.
Hours: Must be able to work 10-20 hours/week during regular business hours (8 am – 6 pm, Monday-Friday). Full-time summer position available.
Duties/Responsibilities: Conduct on-campus transportation-related studies (for example: pedestrian flow, meter parking use, bus routing), assist with creating and maintaining campus wayfinding signing/informational plans, assist with parking facility project construction coordination and communication, and assist with the implementation of the Event Management Plan for TCF Bank Stadium major events.
Fleet Dispatcher/Paratransit Driver
Qualifications: Must be at least 19 years of age and have a valid driver's license with no moving violations in the last two years. Must be detail-oriented with great customer service skills. Individual must be a quick learner, able to work independently and available to work occasional weekends.
Hours: Rotating shifts (6 am – 7 pm, Monday-Friday; 7 am – 12 pm, Sunday).
Duties: Taking rental and paratransit reservations over the phone; dispatching and returning rental vehicles; washing and fueling vehicles. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of vehicle storage area. Will be called upon to run errands for office personnel. Will answer campus transit-related questions.
Qualifications: Must have a valid driver's license with no moving violations in the last two years. Must be a dependable candidate who works well without supervision and who has a good knowledge of the Twin Cities campus. Prefer individual experienced in driving a 12-15 passenger van and in crowded conditions.
Hours: 12-20 hours per week during daytime hours (7 am - 12 pm, Monday-Friday). Also covers for full-time drivers on short notice when necessary for 7 am – 3 pm shifts.
Duties: Drive Paratransit and transport disabled passengers around the Twin Cities campus. Maintain accurate ridership records. Gas and clean vehicles twice a week or more.
NOTE: Must pass drug and alcohol test and may be subject to random drug and alcohol tests.
Fleet Shop Assistant
Qualifications: Must be at least 19 years of age and have a valid driver's license with no ticket or violations in the last 2 years. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Hours: Flexible, 2-3 hours per day, Monday-Friday.
Duties: Pick up parts from vendors. Shuttle vehicles between garage, lots and dealerships. Wash, vacuum and fuel vehicles. Clean shop with a scrubber and sweeper; empty trash containers.
Fleet Accounting Assistant
Qualifications: 19 years of age with a valid driver's license. The individual must be proven proficient in data entry on the computer with a working knowledge in Microsoft Office, preferably Excel. Strong communication skills, including being comfortable talking on the phone with vendors, attention to detail, and some accounting experience preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities: Assist Accountant with accounts payable, data entry, and financials. Communicate with vendors to resolve and billing problems. Handle special projects as assigned by Accountant.
