Contract Cancellation

Most parking contracts can be cancelled at any time by walking into the PTS office. Contracts are considered cancelled when the keycard/hangtag is received in our office. NOT AVAILABLE DURING COVID

There is no fee to cancel a parking contract, but please be aware that University pay periods are NOT the same as parking deduction periods (the two-week timeframes are NOT the same - see Contract Payment Schedule).

Refunds on accounts with a credit balance will not be processed until the hangtag or keycard is received in our office. Payroll-deducted contracts will be refunded via the university payroll system.

NOTE: The monthly parking rate is calculated from the annual rate divided over 12 months. The bi-weekly rate is the annual rate divided by the amount of pay periods in the parking year (October 1 thru September 30).

COVID-19 UPDATE!

Important Notice regarding Student Parking Contracts: 
  • As approved by the Board of Regents on April 3, the Comprehensive Student Fee Refund Plan provides students who have a spring semester parking contract with 100% of their parking fee credited from March 16 to the end of their semester contract. Parking & Transportation Services will be processing credits this month.
  • Those who had already requested a cancellation of their contracts via email prior to March 28 were processed.
  • If you are still using the parking facilities and want to maintain your parking contract, please complete the Maintain Student Parking Contract Form by Friday, April 10. We will keep your contract active and your student account will not be credited for parking.
  • Note for Radius apartment residents: Radius parking is not managed by the University. Students that are moving out will be allowed to cancel their Radius parking contracts with a 30-day notice. Contact radius@umn.edu for details.

Important Notice regarding Staff/Faculty Parking Contracts:

  • PTS understands this is a very stressful time for our campus community as many of us navigate changing schedules or working off campus. We want to ensure parking contracts remain in place for those who need them and accommodate those who wish to cancel.

  • Staff and faculty members who choose to cancel will receive a prorated refund for service not consumed about 4-6 weeks after cancellation.

Ways to Cancel

Students
  • For immediate processing, walk into the PTS office and turn in your hangtag/keycard.
  • Mail your hangtag/keycard to the PTS office (the contract cancellation date will be the postmark date).
Staff and Faculty
  • If you want to PERMANENTLY CANCEL your parking contract, log into the cancellation request form using your internet ID and password. The ten-day waiting period to cancel parking contract is being waived during the COVID outbreak; contracts will be cancelled as of the date the form is submitted online. After you have done this, send us your hangtag/keycard using campus mail.
  • If you want to TEMPORARILY SUSPEND your parking contract due to COVID-19, please hold onto your keycard or hangtag.  Read about your options on our COVID-19 FAQ page.
  • Walk-in cancellations can be immediately processed by turning in your hangtag or keycard. NOT AVAILABLE DURING COVID
  • Write us through U.S. Mail.
    • Mail your hangtag or keycard to the PTS office, 300 Transportation & Safety Building, 511 Washington Ave Se, Minneapolis, MN 55455 (contact customer service for a postage-paid return envelope).
    • The contract cancellation date will be the postmark date.
Contract holders without an internet ID
  • Walk-in cancellations can be immediately processed by turning in your hangtag or keycard. NOT AVAILABLE DURING COVID
  • Write us through U.S. Mail.
    • Mail your hangtag or keycard to the PTS office, 300 Transportation & Safety Building, 511 Washington Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 (contact customer service for a postage-paid return envelope).
    • The contract cancellation date will be the postmark date.
  • Send an e-mail to pts@umn.edu 
    • Please include your name, contract number, cancellation date and home address in your cancellation notice.
    • 10 day advance notice is required.
    • Return your hangtag or keycard to the PTS office, 300 Transportation & Safety Building, 511 Washington Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 (contact customer service for a postage-paid return envelope).
Vendor/Official Vehicle/Loading Zone Contract Holders
  • For immediate processing, walk into the PTS office and turn in your hangtag/keycard. NOT AVAILABLE DURING COVID
  • Mail your hangtag/keycard to the PTS office, 300 Transportation & Safety Building, 511 Washington Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 (contact customer service for a postage-paid return envelope).
  • Contract cannot be cancelled without the return of the hangtag/keycard.
